How has your tummy grown in the past few months?

If you are anything like me, you don’t REALLY realize just how big you are…until you walk past a mirror or see a picture of yourself.  And then you spit your diet coke everywhere (I really am trying to cut back) and stare in horror at your husband and demand to know why he didn’t tell you that you resembled a cow!

I’m a compulsive picture hoarder and while deleting pictures off my phone to make room for yet another upgrade, I saw a picture I took when I was 14 weeks pregnant and JUST barely starting to show.  Hmmmm, I thought to myself…I’m going to go put on that same shirt and take another picture!

Here was the result:

14wks26wks

Left: 14 weeks. Right: 26 weeks and some change.

Well…definitely a noticeable difference!  Suddenly, I’m not that bummed out about my stretchmarks…that belly expanded quite a bit in the past 3 months!  And some amazing things have happened in those 3 months!  We found out we were having a boy, we felt Raylan move for the first time, we started to put together his nursery…It’s been a BLAST!  A fast blast…I can’t wait to meet our little man, but I’m already freaking out over the speed at which life moves.

On a related note, let’s talk weight gain.  Ew, I know.  I started out about 15 pounds over my ideal weight and at my appointment yesterday (26 weeks, 2 days) had gained 20 pounds since the first appointment.  Not too shabby.  I’m not disappointed by my weight gain, but I can’t help but think…If I had actually been watching what I ate and not giving in to every single craving, I wonder if that number would have been even lower!  My goal is to keep total weight gain under 35 pounds for this pregnancy, and I know that is on the high side…but, I feel that it would be a manageable thing to tackle after birth and I’m all healed up.

I’m looking forward to getting into shape with little man!  Plus, it will be nice for my husband to be able to pick me up again, poor thing.  Although, I will say…after two serious bouts of stomach bugs this pregnancy, he has done his fair share of heavy lifting, whether it was into bed, out of the bathtub, off the floor…you get the drift.  In any case, my goal is to get down to 140.  I feel pretty comfortable there.  I’m only 5ft tall, but I have always been VERY curvy…plus…hubby likes my butt and boobs.  And who am I to deny him? ;D

Speaking of weight gain, one of the ladies on my Baby Center birth board posted this diagram, and I thought it was interesting!  Puts the pounds pregnant ladies pack on into some more perspective!

Didn’t even think about water retention and things like that!

How has your belly grown in the past few months?  What are  your weight loss goals after baby comes?

P.S. Third trimester, here we come!  You’re only a week away!

26 weeks

How far along?  26 weeks!  I cannot believe how fast time is going!  Already under the 100 day mark!

Maternity clothes?  YES.  Although, since it’s spring break and all I’m doing is grading essays, it doesn’t really matter if my clothes fit this week or not…LAZY DAYS.

Stretch marks?   All day, everyday.

Sleep: I’m trying to lay off medicine induced sleep.  Some nights are better than others, but I’m not waking up particularly exhausted or anything, so I’ll just keep trucking. (repeat)

Movement: All the time and it’s the best, most wonderful feeling in the world.  I have just recently realized I can see my belly move, which is WEIRD and WONDERFUL.  IN ADDITION, A can now see him rocking and rolling in there.  I keep think about what MrsSamanthaZ said about it looking like there was a party going on in there.  That really is the best description for it!

Food cravings:  anything spicy or sour or doused in guacamole and salsa…I got to indulge this craving over the weekend and oh sweet baby jesus, I ate till I hated myself and then I squeezed down a few more chips laden with salsa.  Twas ridiculous.

Symptoms:  Round ligament pain like a boss!  Particularly if I walk too quickly.  We went to the zoo yesterday and I had to take a break somewhere between the zebras and the rhino.  But if I just rest for a second, I feel fine and can keep going.  In other news, my sciatica has not been bothering me for a while!  It’s pretty nice!

Gender: A sweet baby boy

Baby is:  The length of a green onion, bless him, and almost 2 pounds, which is outrageous.  This week, his hearing is getting better (although I feel like when he hears me and A speak, he slows down…like he is being lulled to sleep…) and he is practicing some important breathing skills he will employ once he gets into the big world 🙂

Best moment this week:  We spent the weekend in Baton Rouge visiting my little brother and it was a blast!  We really didn’t do too much, everybody is sleepy and lazy after a week at work, especially the little brother who works in a plant and has a pretty physically taxing job, but we explored Baton Rouge (as if I hadn’t been born and lived there when I was younger…although thank goodness I got out, because I would be devastated if I was an LSU fan…Roll Tide 😉 ), ate a bunch, visited the zoo, and had a good time catching up.  It was great.  It is so bizarre to think that my baby brother who used to play pokemon and had the imagination to turn a stick into a light saber is all grown up…Time flies really quickly.
Looking forward to:  We are getting a 3D ultrasound on two weeks!  I’m so excited!  I hope he isn’t too shy 🙂

25 Weeks

How far along?  25 weeks (as of 3/17/14)

Maternity clothes?  YES.  And now that the weather is starting to get better, maxi skirts are my best friend.  So stretchy!

Stretch marks?   All day, everyday.

Sleep: I’m trying to lay off medicine induced sleep.  Some nights are better than others, but I’m not waking up particularly exhausted or anything, so I’ll just keep trucking.

Movement: All the time and it’s the best, most wonderful feeling in the world.  I have just recently realized I can see my belly move, which is WEIRD and WONDERFUL.

Food cravings:  anything spicy or sour or doused in guacamole and salsa

Symptoms:  Round ligament pain like a boss!  And massive dehydration last week that has given me some headaches this week.  But I’m feeling much better!

Gender: A sweet baby boy

Baby is:  the size of a rutabaga, according to Baby Center…which, what the hell is that?  A root vegetable?  I’m trying to think back on all my Food Network marathons and I think it’s a big potato looking thing.  In any case, he weighs about a pound and a half and is a little longer than a foot, so basically ridiculously big ❤

Best moment this week:  So, I hesitate to say this, because you can’t come back once it’s in print…but I’m kind of a hermit.  Especially because of pregnancy.  After a long ass day of work, the last thing I feel like doing is hauling my fat self off the couch again to do something in public.  Plus, since we were stationed here in September, I’ve been working.  I have no time for fraternization.  Which is probably why I didn’t realize our neighbors were pregnant until this week.  And not only that, but they are being induced this Friday!  With a baby girl named Charlotte GAH SO CUTE.  It’s their first baby, too, and it’s my new mission to be best friends with them.  I will keep you posted on my progress ;D  (In addition to being a hermit, I’m a creep…)

Looking forward to:  SPRING BREAK, YOU’RE ONLY A WEEK AWAY

The importance of drinking water…

We all know how important it is to stay hydrated…now, here is my little cautionary tale!

At the beginning of the week, I wasn’t feeling so hot.  Not anything that raised red flags, just generally crappy-ness.  Tuesday, I noticed there was a TEENY (I mean small…just a little pink) bit of blood when I used the bathroom, but I figured that was because A and I had done the deed a few days before.  It happens.

Wednesday, I realize I’m pretty crampy and feeling more gross than normal.  I make it through about half of second block before I realize there is no way I can stay at work.  I was super nauseous and I was feeling period-like cramps.  After a quick chat with my administration, I got somebody in to cover my classes for the rest of the day, called the hospital and scheduled a time to get a checked out.

When I got there, they did an ultrasound and little boy was fine, but there were huge patches of black all over the ultrasound.  I was told if the ultrasound turned out fine, I would be on my way.  But they asked me to wait and speak with the nurse, so I figured something wasn’t completely copacetic.

They walked us back into our usual little room and our nurse came in, looking a little grave.

“You are dehydrated.  Bedrest for 24 hours.  Pick up some pedialyte and get started drinking that.”   Turns out, those black spots were the empty spaces where amniotic fluid should have been.  She explained that the low amniotic fluid had caused the braxton hicks I was feeling.

Needless to say, I FELT TERRIBLE.  Not physically, because we have already discussed that, but emotionally.  I tried to turn my poor boy into a raisin.  How sad is that.

I got a sub for Thursday and stayed home, attempting to combat all the nausea I was feeling with rest and water.  I head back to the doctor in a week and they will recheck my fluid levels and as long as everything is where it needs to be, I will be free to return to my usual level of activity.

All in all, it was a pretty eye opening deal.  As a teacher, I find it really difficult to stay hydrated because I do not have the luxury of going to the bathroom when I need.  Time to get a little creative with the water situation…

24 weeks update

How far along?  24 weeks!  WOOHOO viability! 😀

Maternity clothes?  mmhmm and very stretchy clothes…and bigger bras…(repeat)

Stretch marks?   All day, everyday.

Sleep: Only when I take a benadryl…

Movement: All the time and it’s the best, most wonderful feeling in the world.  A finally felt him moving, too.  Totally awesome.  Except when it feels like he is performing a stomp routine on my cervix…that is  not fun.

Food cravings:  anything spicy or sour

Symptoms:  EMOTIONS ALL OVER THE PLACE

Gender: A sweet baby boy

Baby is:  Raylan weighs a little more than a pound and is about a foot long!  He is pretty skinny at the moment, but he will be fattening up in the next month 🙂

Best moment this week:  I have really been struggling with my job recently.  The ridiculousness of public education is in the news everyday, so I probably don’t have to explain what frustrates me so much, but…it’s been a long couple weeks.  Today, however, was an awesome day though. 🙂  Reminded me why I chose to teach in the first place.  Hopefully the next 9 weeks have more good days than bad days.  Plus, the weather was on point today, for the first time in ages, and you can’t help but feel good when the weather is so nice.

Looking forward to:  Spring break!  I’m driving down to Baton Rouge to see my baby brother who works in a plant doing something so technical that I really don’t have a chance of explaining.  And I will get to see some extended family members.  They haven’t seen me since I was 8 weeks!  A lot has changed since then ;D

What a week

Normally, I’m pretty good about getting on every couple days to check in with all my girls and post an update.

But between report cards going out next week (which means a rush to finish grading everything, including all that makeup work the butt heads turn in the weekend before grades are due…so guess what I’ll be doing for the next two days?), my birthday (all we did was eat Chipotle…lol), and general work related anxieties (testing next week and the week after, inservices, LIFE), there was NO time to even take a shower, much less get online.

My apologies!

We had a couple of awesome pregnancy related first the past week!  First time at 23 weeks, first time A felt baby boy move (YAY), and got several gifts for baby boy from my family!  My sweet little brothers, both working men which is scary to me because they shouldn’t be that old, got me a crib mattress, breast pump (the Medela pump in style!), a changing pad, and a changing pad cover! 😀  I know, I know, I’m absurdly blessed to have the most generous family on the planet.  Raylan is the first baby in our family, so everybody is really excited, including the soon-to-be-uncles.

I also received a Moby from in-laws!  So I put one of my dogs in it while practicing wrapping it.

He cried when I took him out.

I forgot to update on Monday because I had a testing inservice after work until 5 and by the time it was over, I was raging against the man – the educational one, that is – and just wanted to go home and eat carbs.  BUT, we hit 23 weeks on Monday, which means 24 weeks (AND VIABILITY) in a couple days!  Raylan moves a lot.  It’s awesome.  Except, I’m guessing since he still hasn’t flipped around yet (breech), he does this thing every once in a while where it feels like he is trying to kick down my cervix.  Really!  It’s the most startling feeling on the planet.  I’m just walking around and all of a sudden I almost fall over because I’ve been kicked in the crotch…from the inside. Ha, pregnancy is magical.

I also sneeze and pee on myself regularly.  So that’s nice.

And….that’s about it!  We are off to run some errands!  I leave you with my belly!  As one of my just OH SO SWEET juniors said yesterday, “DANG, Mrs. C, do you get biggah every day?!”  Yes.  Yes, I do.

The nursery is a go!

My parents spent the weekend with us in Shreveport/Bossier.  And we had a freaking blast!  We spent most of Saturday on a shopping spree for little man.  My parents bought so many things for him and then helped hang items and decorate the nursery this morning.  LiLi and PawPaw LOVE their butter bean.  I’m not going to lie, I was very sad when they departed this morning… 😦  Sometimes, military life is kind of stinky…

But, without further ado, check out the beginnings of Raylan’s room!  😀

We are so excited!  We still need to get a few odds and ends and my little brothers want to get us a changing table and a mattress for the crib.  But I think it is looking amazing!  I am so grateful for AMAZING parents.  They made this nursery possible!
